Testimonial:

"A Breath of Fresh Air"

Ron:

In today's current health care climate with all the rising costs and confusing policy conditions and options to consider, you really made it simple for us to compare "apples to apples" and make sure we understood what the various provider options really meant to me and my family's needs and our budget.

You presented everything clearly, concisely and in a language that helped us pick the best policy with the best coverage and the best rates for our needs.  Plus, your genuine desire to help us through this process and your responsiveness were a breath of fresh air.

Hopefully we won't have to go through this process again anytime soon, but if we do, you're the first person I'll call and I'd gladly refer any of my family or friends to you.

Thanks, again,

Toys for Tots & The US Marine Corps: Volunteers Needed

Toys For Tots & US Marine Corp

Since 1947 the Marine Corps Reserve has collected new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December of each year and distributed those toys to needy children in the community.  The goal is to "deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens."  The Gwinnett detachment of the Marine Corps League needs volunteers to help them at their local warehouse facility to sort toys, fill orders and assist with distribution.  If you would like to volunteer to assist in this heart-warming endeavor please contact Jeff Covert at

Let's Stop Bullying

At the start of the school year, it's important to talk about something that impacts a very great number of schoolchildren and families every day:  bullying.  Unfortunately, many adults don't recognize the seriousness of bullying in 2010Bullying, either because they've never experienced it themselves or because they have experienced it but feel like it's just a "rite of passage."

Most adults don't realize the permanence of the effects of modern bullying, which can include everything from lost self esteem, maiming, lost reputations and even death.  The stakes are much higher than they were only a few years ago.  With modern technology, for instance, harmful pictures and information can spread at literally the speed of light (cyber-bullying).  All it takes is one malicious child with a cellphone.

The website, Kidpower.org, offers 8 helpful skills that kids can use to avoid being the victim of bullies.  They are:

  •  Walking with Awareness, Calm and Confidence
    • Role playing and coaching in body language that says, "I'm not a victim."
  •  Leaving in a Positive, Powerful Way
    • Showing a child how to walk away in a way that minimizes the potential for bullying.
  •  Setting a Boundary
    • When leaving is not possible, learn ways to set clear, firm boundaries.
  •  Using Your Voice
    • How to use your voice as a way to get attention and to make your intentions clear.
  •  Protecting Your Feelings From Name-Calling
    • Helping your child have tougher skin.
  •  Speaking Up For Inclusion
    • How to resist the bullies exclusionary methods.
  •  Being Persistent in Getting Help
    • Teaching a child how to persist when adults do not take the issue seriously.
  •  Using Physical Self-Defense as a Last Resort
    • Exploring when and how to use physical self-defense.

If you are the parents of a child, a mentor, or trusted adult around children, please take some time to familiarize yourself with these skills and other resources by going to the website.

Genworth Financial Long Term Care

               Genworth Financial

A significant number of you are concerned about your long term care risk.  At least 70 percent of people over age 65 will require some long-term care services at some point; more than 40 percent will need care in a nursing home.  Added to that, the cost of long term care in the U.S. continues to rise.  The national median cost of one year in a private nursing home is more than $75,000.  Is it any wonder that many retirees consider outliving their financial resources one of their greatest fears?

I believe I have a solution for you.  I am pleased to introduce Glen Wood, a long term care insurance expert with Genworth Financial as a member of my service team.  Genworth helped pioneer long term care insurance more than 35 years ago and is an industry leader.  If you are interested in learning more about long term care planning please contact me at (678)464-8602 or e-mail me.
